What is Coaching?
Coaching is a process that enables clients, be they individuals, teams, or businesses to achieve their full potential. It is about creating success on your own terms.
“Helps achieve your full potential”
It gets people from where they are now to where they want to be. It is future looking rather than delving into the past.
“Get you from where you are now to where you want to be.”
Coaching focuses on what you want to achieve and how to move forward and overcome any obstacles rather than on what the problems are. It focuses on what you need to do to succeed rather than stopping you fail. Your coach helps you feed the positive rather than empowering the negative.
“Focuses on what you need to do to succeed rather than stopping you fail”
Athletes and performers could never produce the outstanding results they do without coaching. Why should the rest of the population not access the same principles?
“Sportspeople use coaches to maximise potential. Why shouldn’t you?”
Coaching uses powerful, non-judgemental, supportive questioning to help you to take time to assess what you really want to achieve, with what is most important to you. It will help you to clearly specify and articulate that and to set SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Timely) goals.
“Clearly specify what you most want to achieve… what matters most to you”
Coaching will help you clarify your current reality, then bridge the gap between your vision (your goals) and your reality, working with you to produce persistent, creative strategies and actions to move forward and achieve your goal.
“Bridge the gap from reality to vision: creative action to make real, lasting change””
Coaching has the freedom and flexibility to address a wide variety of personal and professional topics. Coaching is often about changing habits and making real, lasting change. However, coaching is NOT psychotherapy or counselling. It is not emotional healing nor is it relief from psychological pain.
“Support. Empowerment. Accountability. Sustained action.”
Coaching is about support, positive feedback, motivation and accountability, to sustain action on the journey by learning from those strategies and actions, assisting clients to turn problems and setbacks into opportunities and producing results even when you don’t feel like it.
Coaching is about empowering you so you own the solution – self-directed learning. The analogy of helping you learn to fish to feed yourself for life rather than giving you fish as food to feed yourself for a day.
“Self-directed learning – the ‘learn to fish rather than get given food’ principle.”
Coaching is designed to provide you with a greater capacity to produce results and a greater confidence in your ability to do so. It is intended that you do not leave coaching with a perception that you need to rely on a coach in order to produce similar results in the future.
Coaching can be a very powerful tool and is proven and recognised to lead to success in many situations. However, like all tools, it is not always the right choice for everyone and results and success cannot be guaranteed.
