What Does the Training Cover?

The program is equally applicable to the NSW Public Sector (including the NSW Public Sector Capability Framework), the Private Sector, Federal & Local Government.

-      How a selection panel operates & what they expect, & implications for applicants

Effectively address selection criteria: practical methodology, skills, hints & tips to enable applicants to and write successful applications (skills learnt also apply to the NSW Capability Framework)

Practical methodology, skills, hints & tips to improve interview techniques

-       Pre-interview preparation

-        How to make a good first impression

-        Coping with nerves

-        A structured framework to answer questions successfully

-        Interview practice and assessment during the course

CV preparation – how to prepare a winning resumé

-        Includes a personal copy of a proven successful CV template for all participants

The training incorporates practical individual and group exercices including interview practice & assessment, group discussion, and individual feedback from learning.

Easily Adapted to a Specific Department or Agency/Group

For example, Southern Cross Coaching & Development recently successfully delivered programs to 220 people over 2 days, to a NSW Government agency undergoing a serious change & restructure.

The program can also easily be adapted to apply to a diverse range of staff and levels of staff within an individual training course.

We can also deliver individual programs for up to 20 people (no minimum number of participants).

For example, courses have been delivered to groups with attendees at different grades and from different Government departments, with equally successful feedback.

Stand Alone Training or Include Follow-Up Individual Coaching

The course is one full day of training, but could be separated into two ½ days if necessary.

It can also be modularised to cover individual aspects of the job application process as required i.e. just interview skills training, or just CV writing, or just addressing selection criteria.

Add 1-on-1 follow up coaching for extra benefits

Individual 1-on-1 career coaching can follow the training to assist attendees with their own personal applications or interview needs.

For example, one NSW department offered attendees the opportunity to have 1 hour of face-to-face coaching the next day to go through their own specific applications. Eight out of twelve attendees made use of this service.

Another department allocated two separate hours of coaching per person. Each person used the coaching on an as-required basis to assist with individual application and interview skills needs.

This was of immense benefit to individuals. They were coached through specific job applications, addressed their own individual weaknesses and were able to write better applications & do better interviews as a result.

They all have proven (and referenced) relevant and in-depth experience, and have experience/training in the Public Sector. Many also have psychology and counselling, qualifications and/or experience.
