Founder and CEO
Simon Smith is the founder and CEO of Southern Cross Coaching & Development. With over 30 years experience in brain-based leadership, coaching and consulting, Simon has an extremely wide range of training, coaching, facilitating and speaking experience. Simon has grown the company from a lone ranger to a happy family of over 30. Outside of the office Simon loves SCUBA diving, red wine, real ale and camping, hopefully not all at the same time.
Marianne is our Operations Manager who is a highly experienced senior customer service leader and trainer with over 25 years’ experience in private and corporate industry sectors including Acquisition Support, Real Estate, Tourism and Maritime. Specialist skills in customer experience and a unique capability in negotiation and mediation techniques building trust to enable a successful outcome. She has also managed her own successful boating charter business in the Mediterranean and United Kingdom. In 2018 she relocated from the UK to live permanently in Sydney with her Australian family.
Marketing & Operations Assistant
Nicholas is our brilliant assistant who is combining work and studies at ICMS. He’s picked the perfect subjects for his abilities in business management, marketing and entrepreneurial innovations. Christine WelshChristine has over 20 years of experience in strategic and operational human resources which includes workplace coaching, change management, redeployment and redundancy, job analysis and evaluation training and facilitation, mediation, conciliation and conflict coaching, corporate investigations and organisational reviews, staff management, and policy development and implementation. Imogen WareingImogen has developed her knowledge and expertise over a professional career spanning the Public and Private Sectors. Her experience includes Senior Human Resource Management positions in the private sector, management consulting with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and 25 years of consulting, executive coaching and mentoring, leadership and management development, strategic planning and change management, team building and performance management and facilitation. One of Imogen’s noted achievements is that she introduced formal organisational mentoring programs as a development tool into Australia, and since designed, managed and delivered the largest blue collar mentoring program in Australia. Imogen has in depth skills and a specialised understanding of personal and organisational change, how people learn and work together, and the economic, political, sociological, and psychological drivers for organisations and the people who work within them, which she learned from her own in-depth experience as well as ongoing formal learning.
Jade WilliamsonJade has specialist skills in leadership coaching, talent management, local and international recruitment and selection, expatriation, labour migration, performance management, workforce planning, dispute resolution and mergers and acquisitions. Jade has comprehensive HR and IR experience working for both SMEs and large multi-nationals, whose work forces have consisted of both blue and white collar workers across various industries including aviation, legal counsel, manufacturing, construction, research, insurance and building automation. she worked within, and managed teams across the Americas, APAC and Europe to develop programs in areas such as leadership development, engagement and recognition, best practice performance management and cultural change.
Dr Kell Tremayne
Dr Kell TremayneKell has a PhD in psychology with dynamic experience in lecturing, tutoring, coordinating at University, and as a consultant in the area of time management, optimising performance, stress management, and effectiveness. His experience in facilitating and coaching include: behavioural change, people development, effectiveness and efficiency, leadership and focused performance. As a Unit Coordinator for 1200 students at the University of Western Sydney, Kell had responsibilities of coordinating, lecturing and tutoring psychology students, and possess excellent email management skills! A great deal of his experience has been working with elite and emerging athletes and business people over the past 15-20 years. 06The Story Behind our Logo
To understand a little more about what makes us tick, the story behind our logo is a good place to start.
It was 1995 and Simon Smith had just completed 10 years of service as an officer in the British Royal Air Force. He packed his bags and headed south to Australia via Asia and enjoyed 2 years of travelling freedom.
His first ever sighting of the Southern Cross constellation was during a night tour at the Observatory in Canberra, and he was blown away by the depth and detail. A few months later, Simon was in the Philippines working as an underwater videographer, SCUBA diving instructor and marine researcher. His love for the ocean led him to be part of a crewing team sailing a 37-foot yacht around the South China Sea.
Simon would often take the midnight to 4am shifts where he took to the helm and kept watch. He loved the solitude, the frequent visits from whales and accompanying dolphins, and was in awe of the inky black sky set ablaze with a billion sparkling stars. Sitting and watching the Southern Cross on its rise and decent became a symbol of direction, freedom and inspiration, provoking many hours of personal and professional reflection. Today it reflects our field of professional and personal development.
The Southern Cross symbolises you, the individual, the team and the organisation. The two lone stars pointing to the Southern Cross are called ‘The Pointers’ and are symbolic of coaching and training which focuses on the individual, the team and the organisation by pointing you in the right direction.
To the naked eye the ‘fifth’ star, just below the far right hand star of the cross, appears to be one white star. It is actually a cluster of several bright, multi-coloured stars known as ‘The Jewel Box’, which can only be seen when observed through a telescope. Our coaching and training services help you gain insight and awareness into yourself, your leadership, your career, your team, and your organisation. They can help you to see the ‘jewels’ inside.
Just below The Jewel Box is a black patch of sky called The Coal Sack, barely discernible unless you’re away from city lights. This dark interstellar dust cloud obscures the light of the stars behind and appears as a dark nebula. Many of us are familiar with our own darkness that we can sometimes drift into; we know it, we’ve been there! Coaching, training and knowledge development can help get you out of it when you are in it, and aid to prevent it from returning.
From the dark come rays of light, emanating from the Jewel Box signalling a new dawn. In a coaching and development context, this is the emergence and brightening of awareness, the development of wisdom and knowledge, the burst of inspiration and ideas, the materialisation of direction and initiation into action, all of which Southern Cross Coaching & Development focuses our services on.
